8/20/2009SFU 3.5 UpdatesMicrosoft ® has two new hotfixes for SFU 3.5 You need to apply both to update it and support Data Execution Prevention on Windows 2003 non R2 servers. You can also request LBM for an update copy of AXIAR (Format and Deliver) with binaries that support the new SFU update. For Interix 3.5: 8.01969.64 you need (KB953191) and KB942312; please install the updates in that specifi order. To get the hotfixes please go to : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953191/en-us and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942312/en-us 3/20/2008I get an error when adding an AXIAR PortThe causes for the error could be: 1.- You are using the RDP client to configure the AXIAR server remotely. Solution: Use the mstsc command line, please read our using RDP to configure AXIAR FAQ message about this. 2.- The Port Monitor is not installed Solution: Some installations cannot run the monitor installation correctly due to permission problems from the user installing AXIAR. To fix this problem you need to connect to the server and open a command console (CMD from START - RUN ). At the prompt go to your Windows/System32 folder Type the following command: AxiarMonitorInstall install This will enable the port Monitor. After installing it, we recommend you to stop/start the Windows Print Spooler Service. If you have problems with the installation of AXIAR Port Monitor, please send the message generated by the AxiarMonitorInstall program to support@lbmsys.com

Using RDP to configure AXIARIf you install AXIAR on a server and need remote access to configure, using MS Remote Desktop Client, you need to be aware of some permission limitations with the ADD Windows Printer option under the AXIAR Installer. You can try to connect remotely using the command line: mstsc with the following arguments: mstsc -v:servername -console The -console will connect to the remote server as a console connection, giving you better permissions for the Terminal Service session. This may allow you to use the ADD Windows Printer option, if this does not work, you can use the following options: At the AXIAR Installer under Tools go to AXIAR Port Management Select ADD Port Configure the port manually Click OK to add it. Do this for all the ports you want to configure. After all ports are defined go to your Windows Control Panel and select the Printers and Faxes console, select the ADD Printer option When requested to select the port, select Local Port and from the list look for the Port you just created from the AXIAR Installer. Do the same for all other printers on Windows you need to be connected to AXIAR.

3/19/2008Interix and SFU/SUAInterix 2.2 is the previous version of SFU and SUA (Services for UNIX /Subsystem for UNIX Applications). Interix 2.2 used the following path: //C/Interix SFU and SUA use a new path to locate folders, files and programs; SFU path will be like /dev/fs/C/SFU, if you use it on scripts you can also use the path as UNIX, for example /bin, where / is the root where SFU was installed. How this affects AXIAR? If you have scripts or definitions for forms, printers that use the Interix 2.2 like //C/Interix/usr/spool/uprint/filename the new path on SFU will be /dev/fs/C/SFU/usr/spool/uprint/filename; on SUA the path is different, /dev/fs/C/AXIAR/uprint. Other difference between Interix, SFU, and SUA is the kernel and the way programs are compiled. Some programs compiled on Interix may work on SFU and SUA, the same for programs compiled on SFU which may work on SUA; however sometimes the programs may generate core files, if that is the case, the programs need to be compiled on the new subsystem. If you need help moving from Interix 2.2 to the latest Microsoft Subsystem, you can contact LBM support for professional services.

11/9/2007Q: I cannot open the manager, the error when running it from shell is : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/swing/ActionMap
A: This error means that you have and old Java Runtime program (older than 1.4.x). You need to upgrade your JRE system by downloading the latest version from java.sun.com
Q. I opened the Manager but cannot execute actions on any job or printer, the functions are gray out. A: If you logon to the manager using your login account, you will be able to manage jobs with the username that match your login information. If you want to manage all jobs, you need to login as Administrator (use capital A).
Q: I have a Windows 2003 R2 server and the AXIAR CD for it, when I run the installation, I got a message that SUA is not enabled and the setup exists, how do I enable SUA?
A: In our AXIAR CD for Windows 2003 R2 there’s a technical note (no. 49) with information on how to enable SUA as part of Windows Components, prior to install AXIAR.
Q: I installed AXIAR on Windows 2003 server, but it is not working, posix does not start and the AXIAR programs do not run.
A: One reason could be that you have a Windows 2003 R2 server and installed a previous AXIAR 6.2 release. Windows 2003 R2 does not support SFU 3.5, this has been replaced by Subsystem for Unix Applications (SUA). You need to contact LBM to request a Windows 2003 R2 AXIAR installation CD and follow the instructions from the technical note on how to install it.
Q: My Windows 2003 SP1 server has DEP disabled and the patch installed but still get the license error.
A: If this is the case, the main binaries files of AXIAR do not have the correct permissions. To check this check the execution of the chklic file as follows:
If the result is 1 then your system is ok, run the installer again, if the result is Memory Fault (Core Dump) that means, your Windows System had a recent upgrade that affected the patch, please re-install it again; if the result is Permission Denied, then change the permissions for the file by running chmod 777 chklic.
Q: When running the AXIAR installer on Windows I got a license error message:
A: This error occurs on Windows 2003 SP1 servers.
Some servers have a Data Execution Prevention system enabled, which causes some posix binaries to crash.
Microsoft released a Knowledge Base document : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352 with information about DEP affecting some applications and programs.
We recommend our clients to disable the DEP system, as instructed on MS KB875352 and install a patch to fix some posix main binaries, affected by updates on Windows 2003 SP1 systems.
Clients can download the patch from our ftp site at:
